Progressive Rock

Progressive rock is a genre of rock music that emerged in the late 1960s, characterized by its ambitious compositions, complex time signatures, and incorporation of elements from classical, jazz, and experimental music. Often featuring extended instrumental sections, concept albums, and poetic or philosophical lyrics, progressive rock aimed to elevate rock music to a more artistic and sophisticated form. Bands like King Crimson, Yes, Genesis, and Pink Floyd pioneered the style, pushing the boundaries of traditional song structures and exploring thematic depth and musical virtuosity. Progressive rock remains influential for its innovation, technical mastery, and its challenge to the conventions of mainstream rock.
